From 6-8 p.m. at the Trenton High School cafeteria (400 Chambers Street), the TPD will host an info session to teach those interested about the application process, what the job has to offer and more. How to Become a Trenton Police Officer

  • The Trenton Police Department Hiring Process is designed to reach a diverse audience of applicants in order to establish a well-rounded team of Police Officers.
  • Candidates for the Position of Trenton Police Officer must first apply to the New Jersey Civil Service Commission and pass an entrance examination to be placed on a list of eligible candidates. Chosen candidates will go through an extensive background check. Candidates fit to become a Trenton Police Officer will attend the Mercer County Police Academy. Upon successful completion of the academy, recruits will be sworn in as Trenton Police Officers. The future is in your hands!

Minimum Requirements

  • Be a high school graduate or possession of an approved high school equivalent certificate
  • Be 18-35 years old
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Possess a New Jersey Drivers license
  • Pass a background check
  • Pass a psychological exam
  • Pass a medical and drug screening

Salary

  • Starting Annual Salary: $44,124-$93,144
  • Top Officers can earn up to $98,145 as their base salary
